The association is located in Busukuma sub county, Wakiso district,Uganda-East africa
It a legally registered organization
and has links with the Ministry of Agriculture through the horticulture Program, ,NAADS ,ACDI /VOCA,National Organic Agriculture Movement of Uganda (NOGAMU), Horticulture Promotion of Uganda (HPOU), Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) ,Fruits of the Nile,HOTEXA .
Objectives for the Association
1. To put heads and hands together as farmers in order to have a strong voice in production and marketing of their farm produce.
4. To build the capacity of the local community in improved agricultural techniques.
2. To ensure food security and increased incomes more especially among the vulnerable communities.
3. To increase community awareness on the importance of veg ...etables and fruits towards nutrition.
I, ACTIVITIES
A, HORTICULTURE
Horticulture production is a vital element of the association with emphasis on;
VEGETABLES
These include; French beans, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Cucumber, Eggplant, Carrots, Pepper, Tomatoes, Cabbages of different types, Squash, Leeks, Spring Onions Pack hoi, Water Spinach, etc
Fruits produced include; Pineapples, Strawberries, Gooseberries, Raspberries Passion fruits, Oranges etc
HERBS
Herbs grown by the association include;
Persley,Celery,Basil,Beetroot,Buchu,Chives,Dill,Fennel,Garlic,Radish,lemon,Marjoram,Mint, and Rosemary
SPICES
Basically Chilies, Garden eggs, Hot pepper, Avocados, Pineapples, Passion fruits, Sim beans, Kallera,Apple Bananas,Sweet potatoes,Cassava Valo beans, and Okra are grown for export market.
FOOD PRODUCTION
Food crops grown include; Rice, Banana- Matooke, Cassava, Maize, Beans basically to ensure food security.
Most of our produce is organic or else produced using Good Agricultural practices or Integrated pests' management (IPM).
2, MARKETING
The association hss access to Organic shops, Supermarkets, Hotels, International schools, Open markets and now looking forward to export market and increased production.
3, IRRIGATION
Through water harvesting and use of a small portable water pump with water pipes through sprinklers we are capable of producing through out the year.
4, Research
NHFG has helps researchers more especially institutions and organizations regarding horticulture. Students from higher Institutions e.g. Makerere University mostly Horticultural related courses do their research with the association. Read more
